Jumblatt to cement exit from March 14 during TV interview Al- will begin to speak
Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) leader Walid Jumblatt will tackle his relations with the Syrian leadership during a televised interview on Saturday that is expected to outline Jumblatt’s new alliances in domestic and foreign politics, cementing his exit from the March 14 alliance.
Jumblatt’s interview on Al-Jazeera television is to be followed by a speech on Tuesday on the 33rd commemoration of his father Kamal Jumblatt’s assassination, a speech the PSP leader said would be the last to be addressed to Damascus.
The PSP leader withdrew from the March 14 alliance following the June 2009 parliamentary elections, saying his membership “was driven by necessity and must end.” It marked his first step in paving the way for a visit to Damascus and moving closer to parties from the parliamentary minority, led by Hizbullah, a strong ally of Syria.
